PM Modi's Mann Ki Baat on Alumni Engagement!

“A youthful nation like ours must leave an impact in the entire world.”

These words by our dear Prime Minister Narendra Modi clearly reflect how much of an impact he wishes our nation to have on the entire World. In order to further his aim, PM Modi addresses the people of the country through Mann Ki Baat. He firmly is working towards impacting the youth who can then help the nation make an impact on the World.

Mann Ki Baat is an Indian radio programme hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in which he addresses the people of the nation on All India Radio, DD National and DD News. Since the first show on 3 October 2014, there have been 71 episodes.

Recently, Prime Minister Modi addressed the nation in the 71st edition of his monthly radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat' on 29th November, 2020. He talked at length about alumni and how every student must remain connected to their former institute to contribute towards the growth of the institute and more students.

Our Prime Minister's address on alumni began with him reminiscing his fond memories from the time when he met a lot of students. He said every University campus he visited felt like mini-India to him in a way. Interacting with students and visiting their University campus has always made our dear Prime Minister feel energised and refreshed.

PM Modi exuberantly said that every time he sees the achievement of a person he instantly wonders about the institute from which the person is. He wonders if the institute of the person has an active alumni network and if it engages with their alumni or not.

Then came the golden words-

" You are a student of an institute while you study there but after this, you remain an alumni of that institute for life."

No matter where a person reaches one's education and affection towards one's institute never end. It always remains! PM Modi went on to say that every time alumni meet among themselves they relive the moments they spent in the institute and such fond memories instil in them a sense of gratitude and motivates them to give back to the institute in every way possible.

In the words of our Prime Minister-

"Nothing beats the sense of satisfaction that one gets on helping one's own institute".

He then talked about alumni donations contribute to the overall development of the institute and the growth of the existing students of the institute. IITians have contributed towards the development of many facilities like conference centres, management centres, incubation centres and all this has improved the learning experience of the current students. This helps the existing students with skill development and is immensely beneficial to them.

Our Prime Minister then appreciated IIT Delhi for setting up an endowment fund and expressed that all the top institutes of the World too have set up such endowment funds.

He then motivated the people and the institutes of this country to come forward and learn by example of the top institutes. He explained that a donation is never too small, every bit of help matters and counts towards a bigger step.

PM Modi further appreciated the efforts of institutions and alumni towards running mentorship programs and contributing to the growth of students.

Through all this our PM tried to show us how helpful every help from alumni is and the exemplary results it could have in the long run.

Another example our PM gave was of some boarding schools who have built very strong relations with their alumni and are continuously engaging with their alumni.

In the end, our Prime Minister said that every institute, be it in a small village or in a metropolitan must work towards engaging their alumni through various innovative events and also build online portals to keep their alumni connected. He appealed to the people of the country to stay connected their own institute and do their bit!

PM Modi concluded with the lines:

"Every institute should have a creative platform to bring together its alumni and keep them engaged."
