This quote reflects the truth of the society. A celebrity is a successful person who has toiled day and night to reach the zenith of success. People don't become successful overnight!


Similar is the case with popular alumni. Every year millions of students graduate and only a few are able to make a mark and get named as "imminent alumni". The institute and the entire alumni network takes immense pride in their imminent alumni as they spread a lot of good word about their alma mater.


The more the distinguished alumni from an institute the better is the reputation of the institute as it produced such amazing alumni.


A lot of alumni from BITS, Pilani have become founders and CEOs of top companies of the world and have achieved a lot in almost every walk of life be it politics, corporate, entertainment or more.

While there are a lot of BITS Pilani graduates who have done some amazing work in life, we have picked out 15 here based on their activity on AlmaConnect and web in general.

1. Prithviraj Chavan: Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra

Prithviraj Chavan was the 17th Chief Minister of Maharashtra and held office from 11 November 2010 – 26 September 2014. Mr. Chavan received his bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, in 1967. Prithviraj Chavan served as the Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office in the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions. Mr Chavan recieved distinguished alumnus award from BITS Pilani too.

2. Sriharsha Majety: Co-founder and CEO of Swiggy

Shriharsha Majety is an alumnus from BITS Pilani and founded Swiggy back in 2014 along with his friend and fellow BITSian Nandan Reddy. Swiggy now has made it's mark in the Indian food tech industry and is a top player in the same. With his untiring efforts Swiggy rapidly spread to a majority of parts of the country and changed the way the country eats!




3. Govindan Rangarajan: Director of IISc Bangalore

Prof. Govindan Rangarajan obtained an Integrated MSc (Hons) degree from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani in 1985 and a PhD from the University of Maryland, College Park, USA. He has been a faculty member of the Department of Mathematics, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), since 1992. He is currently the Director of IISc. His achievements in the academic field have been immense and he has surely made the institute extremely proud!

4. Anant Maheshwari: President of Microsoft India

Anant Maheshwari received his Master of Science degree in Economics from Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani, in 1996. Mr. Anant was President at Honeywell India, and Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company. After his stint at these companies Anant Maheshwari went on to join Microsoft in 2016 as the President. He is responsible for all of Microsoft’s product, service, and support offerings across India.


5. Anil Goel: CTO and Chief Product Officer at Oyo Rooms

Anil Goel obtained his bachelors degree in Electrical and Electronics from Birla Institute of Technology & Science Pilani in 1995. He is the Group Chief Technology & Product officer of one of the largest startups of India- OYO. Before this he has had impactful roles in companies like Amazon and Hike messenger as well. A lot of people are reluctant to get into startups and he surely shows that if one works hard enough, he can take himself and the startup to success.


6. Amitabh Chaudhry: MD, CEO, Axis Bank

Amitabh Chaudhry is an engineer from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani and the managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) of Axis Bank, the third largest private sector bank in India. He joined Axis in January 2019, after heading HDFC Life Insurance for nine years. Prior to HDFC Life, he was the MD and CEO of Infosys BPO and the Head of testing unit of Infosys Technologies Ltd.



7. Sabeer Bhatia: Co-Founder of Hotmail

Sabeer Bhatia graduated from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani in 1988. Sabeer Bhatia (born 30 December 1968) is an Indian-American businessman who co-founded the webmail company Hotmail.com. As President and CEO, he led Hotmail until its eventual acquisition by Microsoft in 1998 for an estimated $400 million. He has provided jobs to thousands of people through his numerous ventures and surely made a mark.



8. Hari Menon: CEO and Co-Founder of Bigbasket

Mr. Hari Menon obtained his MSc (Tech) in Science & Technology Development from BITS Pilani in the year 1983. Mr. Hari Menon is the CEO of BigBasket.com, a company he co-founded in December 2011 with a vision of setting up India’s finest online food and grocery company. BigBasket processes more than 45,000 orders per day and has a base of 5 million customers. Bangalore-based Big Basket operates in 26 Indian cities.



9. Phanindra Sama- Co-Founder and CEO of Redbus.in

Phanindra Sama graduated in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from BITS Pilani in 2002. He is the founder and former CEO of India’s biggest online ticket booking platform RedBus.in. He started Redbus back in August 2006 and worked there as CEO of the company for almost eight years. And on June 21, 2013, Redbus was acquired by ibibo Group. Now he has become an angel investor and is connected with other organizations.



10. Abhinav Asthana- Founder and CEO of Postman

Abhinav is a 2010 graduate from BITS Pilani, Goa campus. Abhinav cofounded his first company, TeliportMe as a CTO soon after his graduation. It was one of the most widely used apps on Android and received more than 5M downloads. During his time at TeliportMe, Abhinav wrote the first version of Postman, which gained significant traction in the developer ecosystem. In 2014, he cofounded Postman as the CEO.




11. Nishant Suri- Winner of Amazon Comicstaan

Nishant Suri graduated from BITS Pilani, Goa campus in 2012. He started his career as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs. He worked there for about two years and figured out that it was not something he was made for. He then explored various things and did stand-up comedy. He then went on to take part in Amazon's show Comicstaan and won it. He has done a ton of comedy events since then.





12. Ishan Bansal- Co-founder of Groww

Ishan Bansal is a 2009 mechanical engineering graduate from BITS Pilani and is the co-founder of Groww, It is a leading investing company helping people with very limited knowledge in investing wisely. Recently, Groww received a funding of 30M$ from it's investors and has been doing amazing in the financial sector.







13. Revathi Advaithi- CEO of Flextronics

Ms. Advaithi has a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science in Pilani. Ms. Advaithi was recognized as one of Fortune’s Most Powerful Women in Business list for two consecutive years (2020, 2019) and named one of Business Today’s Most Powerful Women in India (2020). Currently, she is the Chief Executive Officer of Flex, the global manufacturing partner of choice that helps a diverse customer base design and build products to improve the world



14. Manu Sawhney- CEO of International Cricket Council (ICC), Former CEO of ESPN Star Sports

Manu Sawhney a BITS Pilani alumnus became the fifth Chief Executive of the ICC on 1 April 2019. Mr Sawhney is the former CEO of Singapore Sports Hub and Managing Director of ESPN Star Sports with 22 years of commercial experience in both sport and broadcasting in senior leadership roles.






15. Gaurav Chaudhary- Technical Guruji

Gaurav Chaudhary has done a masters in microelectronics from BITS Pilani, Dubai Campus. After pursuing his Masters from BITS Pilani, he started working as a security engineer for the Dubai Police. Owing to his passion he started his technical Youtube channel "Technical Guruji" in 2015. Since then, Gaurav uploaded over 2,800 videos reviewing phones and other gadgets and has over 15 million subscribers. He has accumulated over 1.6 billion views so far. He has the world's largest hindi tech channel on Youtube.
